THE GREENHOUSE
Greenhouse, glasshouse, orangery, hothouse, conservatory, cold-frame, poly-tunnel, cool-house, plant-house. All these names refer to a glass or plastic construction that allows the maximum light in and creates a micro-climate in which tender plants and seedlings can be protected from the cold.
Some are enormous, others are tiny. Some are metal, others are wood, others are glass or plastic. Some are works of art, others are purely functional. Some are attached to a building, others are free-standing. All of them work.
