It’s March 18th and although there is finally a smidgen of warmth in that sun, and the snow is mostly gone and wee things are starting to emerge in the garden, it is still too early to start most seeds indoors!
If you look at the “Last Frost Countdown” at the top of the page you will see that we still have over 80 days until we are frost-free, thereabouts. It is best to wait a bit longer than to sow too early. Always check the seed package for advice on timing your indoor sowing.
Seeds that are started too early are prone to disease and they tend to become leggy & root bound. The plants are stressed and they are going to be weak and they might even fail completely after transplanting.
While you’re patiently waiting, why not head over to our article on the Last Frost Date or enjoy the garden as it now is with Five Minutes to Winter Garden Bliss!
Or, you could brush up on how to use row cover when the time comes for transplanting by checking out Magi Nams’ article. We usually need it when we do start planting out.
Patience is a virtue, we are told.
